Rumbosencillo documents and celebrates the restoration of historic buildings in Antigua Guatemala, where every stone tells a story of architectural resilience.
Documented Buildings
Active Projects
Years of History
Colonial buildings face damage from earthquakes, humidity, and the passage of time. Each lost year means more heritage at risk of irreversible collapse.
Many colonial construction techniques are being lost. Without detailed records, authentic restoration becomes virtually impossible.
Most people are unaware of the cultural value of these spaces. Without collective appreciation, support for conservation projects fades away.
Rumbosencillo was born from the urgent need to preserve the architectural heritage of Antigua Guatemala. You no longer need to be an architect to appreciate the value of urban heritage in Guatemala.
We document every stage of colonial house restoration, from initial diagnosis to complete recovery. We create a visual and technical archive that serves as a reference for future interventions and educates the community about the importance of keeping our architectural identity alive.
We capture every detail of the restoration process with high-resolution professional photography.
We research and tell the unique story of each building and its inhabitants through time.
We share knowledge to foster pride and responsibility for our cultural heritage.
Each project represents years of dedication, research, and love for Guatemala's heritage.
Comprehensive restoration of an 18th-century colonial mansion on 5ta Avenida Norte. The project rescued unique architectural elements such as carved stone columns, original brick floors, and a central courtyard with a baroque fountain. The intervention lasted 14 months and recovered nearly forgotten colonial construction techniques.
Conservation project of the convent's unique circular structure. Walls affected by the 1773 earthquake were stabilized, brick vaults restored, and colonial-period frescoes recovered. The work included archaeological research that revealed surprisingly advanced original hydraulic systems for the time.
Revitalization of 12 colonial facades on the iconic Calle del Arco. The project coordinated multiple property owners to restore the architectural uniformity of the 17th century, recovering historical color palettes, wrought iron grilles, and wooden gates with original hardware. A model of integrated urban conservation.
We collect documents, old photographs, and testimonies to understand the building's original context. We consult municipal archives and specialized libraries.
Specialists analyze structural condition, materials, and construction techniques. We identify original elements that must be preserved and areas requiring urgent intervention.
We photograph every stage of the restoration process. From initial state to details of applied techniques. We create a permanent record of the work performed.
We publish detailed articles and photographic material for the community to learn about the process. We organize guided visits when possible to connect people with their heritage.
Colonial interior restoration requires a delicate balance between preserving historical authenticity and ensuring contemporary functionality.
We work with artisans specialized in traditional techniques: lime stuccos, mineral paints, antique woodwork, and colonial ironwork. Each element is treated with the respect deserved by a witness to three centuries of Guatemalan history.
Our publications reach thousands of students and professionals interested in heritage architecture. We collaborate with universities to train new conscious generations.
Antigua residents become actively involved in preservation when they understand the value of their environment. We've seen a growing sense of belonging in each project.
Documented restoration attracts conscious visitors who value authenticity. Cultural tourism generates resources to continue conservation projects.
"Preserving architectural heritage is not just about keeping buildings standing. It's ensuring that future generations can touch, feel, and experience Guatemala's tangible history. Every restored wall is a bridge between past and future."
We would love to document your heritage conservation project. Each building has a unique story that deserves to be told and preserved.
